As a color person and collector of glass since grade school, Karen L. Cohen started enameling over 40 years ago to incorporate these two passions into her creative work. She specializes in Cloisonne enameling on fine silver using transparent and other leaded enamels for their luminosity and the depth and variety of color. She chooses the Cloisonne technique because of a love of the process, but works in many other enameling techniques. Ms. Cohen signature look includes fine silver balls and twisted wires to give a relief texture to her work.

As a Studio Button Artist, Ms. Cohen creates buttons in enamel (on both copper and fine silver), fabric/beaded, gourds (with beading, pyrography, painting and more), and metal (3 techniques: Kum Boo, colored pencil on copper and etched). Her buttons are on her site at:

Ms. Cohen is the author of the book, The Art of Fine Enameling - Second Edition, published in 2019, which is a total rewrite of the first edition. Her work and articles on enameling and buttons has been published in books and magazines including Glass On Metal, The National Button Society Bulletin and more. Currently Ms. Cohen teaches enameling and beading in various venues to both adults and children and is working on an extensive book on Enamel Buttons from her perspective as an enamelist.
