Caroline Gilderson-Duwe

Greetings from Green Bay Wisconsin!  I am excited to share my buttons with you. I have been married to my college sweetheart for 38 years and have 3 grown children.  Over the years I have had several professions including librarian, stay-at-home mom, and Registered Nurse.  I am now semi-retired and work part-time as a nurse for a local school district.  Besides my button hobby, I enjoy photography, cooking, and traveling.

I am new to the world of buttons.  In November of 2021, my father-in-law passed away.  As we were sorting through his house/estate, my sister came across a box of buttons. I spent that night and into the wee hours sorting through those buttons.  It was like discovering a time capsule full of history and little pieces of art.  I have been hooked on buttons ever since.

A little about my studio buttons and creative process:  I have been doing needlework of one kind or another since I was about 5 years old.  When I visited my grandmother, she always had a stash of little embroidery kits to keep me busy.  And my mother patiently taught me how to knit, make lace, and sew clothes for my dolls. It never occurred to me to create needlework buttons until I saw Anne Seltzer's (Button Annie) buttons on Facebook.  She posted these really cool buttons made from vintage handkerchiefs. Since then, I have been creating my own buttons.  They bring me a lot of joy to make, and I hope that is reflected in my buttons.

Below are photos of some of my favorite creations.
